NFI North has been providing key services for children, youth and families in Maine since 1991. Over the past fourteen years the organization has continually worked to develop small community based services, designed to meet the individual psychological, emotional, behavioral and educational needs of children, youth, families and adults within the great State of Maine. The first service developed by NFI in Maine was Dirigo Place. This transitional housing program for adolescents was developed in partnership with Maine’s Department of Mental Health in response to the AMHI Consent Decree. The success of this important initiative not only resulted in short term care for young people transitioning from psychiatric hospitalization but also provided the backdrop the successful development of other NFI programs. Today NFI North provides day treatment services, special education schooling, community support services and residential care for, youth in transition, latency aged children, young people who require secure programming, adults and seniors. The organization’s programs and services work in a systematic manner building on the family and individual’s strengths in order to effectively address the challenges that confront them. Through this process, individuals who participate in our services develop skills which support greater self-sufficiency and capacity for success within their family and community. NFI North prides itself on the high quality services provided by the organization. The organization’s programs and services are licensed and certified by various state regulatory entities, and each service participates in an ongoing quality enhancement process. This culture of quality also extends to the caliber of staff found in the Agency. NFI staff are high quality professionals who share the organization’s vision for the delivery of key community based services in an environment of respect and responsibility. Program and Agency staff are credentialed and trained in accordance with state, federal and professional licensing standards. The organization maintains a dynamic in-service training program that involves an intensive core curriculum and includes an agency-wide two-day conference. Most importantly, the staff’s commitment to the provision of quality services to children, youth, families and adults in Maine is unsurpassed.
