NAFI/NFI provides a range of individualized services for individuals with
specialized needs. As in all of our programs, services are designed to help
individuals build upon their strengths and gain skills in positive community
living.
Behaviorally Intensive Programming
NAFI/NFI offers residential and family based services for adolescents and children presenting with challenging behaviors such as physical or sexual aggression and/or fire-setting. Our normative approach encourages youth to take responsibility for their actions, learn skills necessary to manage their impulses and emotions, while allowing them to pursue educational, social and vocational development. Our trauma informed programming addresses offender cycles, conflict resolution, anger management, victim awareness and substance abuse. We also offer training and consultation to other agencies providing these services.
Girls Services
NAFI/NFI is nationally known for our expertise in providing residential and
community-based services for adolescent girls. When working with adolescent
girls, NAFI/NFI utilizes a relational model based on the Normative Approach, to
help the girls overcome trauma histories and develop positive self-esteem and
decision-making skills. Girls are also provided educational and pre-vocational
services to help them develop skills to succeed in the adult world. All
individualized services are delivered in the context of the relationships that
are developed with each girl's Advocate/Counselor, and include Dialectic
Behavior Therapy, educational, and vocational services.
Developmental Disabilities and Autism
NAFI/NFI provides both residential and community-based support and services
for children and adults with developmental disabilities and/or autism. Their
needs vary widely. For adults, we operate the Individual Support Program for those who
are living in their own communities. For children and adolescents with developmental
disabilities, we provide group home care that helps them reach their individual
potential in the areas of learning and community living. Children at these group
homes attend school in the community or at alternative schools, and learn
community living skills tailored to their individualized abilities and needs.
Asperger Syndrome
NAFI/NFI has developed a capacity to address the clinically challenging impact of Asperger Syndrome (AS). NAFI/NFI’s Medical Director, Dr. Dan Rosenn, is an expert in the field who consults with our programs to assess clients for AS, as well as their treatment plans. Dr. Rosenn is also an internationally renowned researcher, exploring ways in which brain synapses affect cognitions in AS patients, particularly in regard to learning and social interaction.
Seniors with a History of Mental Health Issues
NAFI/NFI operates residential programs serving seniors with a history of
mental health needs. These group homes provide an opportunity for consumers to
live in a therapeutic community-based setting. Each of the elders live in a
stable, supportive but generally non-intrusive atmosphere which includes
flexible staff support tailored to individual needs and assistance in accessing
community resources. The programs are designed to assist consumers to reconnect
with their communities through learning and practice of skills for potential
independent living.
